La investigación cuantitativa en las ciencias sociales y en especifico en la educación se torna en un campo de formación compleja por dos motivos. Uno, los objetos de estudio de las ciencias sociales no son fácilmente susceptibles de interrogarse cuantitativamente sin empobrecerlos, es decir sin que pierdan aparentemente algo de su complejidad natural. Y dos los instrumentos de captura de datos para estos objetos de estudio raramente obtienen altos índices de confiablidad y validez.
 
Sin embargo la investigación cuantitativa puede arrogar datos específicos sobre el comportamiento de algunos objetos de estudio complejos sometidos a controles experimentales y fragmentados en variables definidas operacionalmente.

Esta utilidad de la investigación cuantitativa no es contraria a la utilidad de la investigación cualitativa sino complementaria porque ambas son científicas y comparten el rigor del método científico pero con diferentes instrumentos de recolección de datos y tratamientos interpretativos de estos. Durante este taller se abordaran algunas formas de tratamiento cuantitativo de las variables en estudio tanto para su definición y operacionalizaciòn como para la recolección de información e interpretación de esta.

Quantitative research in the social sciences and specificallyin education becomes a field of complex training for two reasons. One, the objects of study in the social sciences are not easily susceptible to quantitatively interrogate without diminishing them, i.e. without apparently loosing some of their natural complexity. And two instruments of data capture for these study objects rarely obtain high levels of reliability and validity.

However the quantitative research can arrogate specific data about the behavior of some complex objects of study subject to experimental and fragmented controls on operationally-defined variables.

This utility of quantitative research is not the opposite to the utility of qualitative research but complementary because both are scientific and share the rigor of the scientific method but with different instruments of data collection and interpretation treatments of these. During this workshop some forms of quantitative treatment of variables in study will be covered,both for their definition to correct operation and for the collection of information and interpretation of it.
